We can simply say this: Virtue is seen as a good, and patience is a virtue; hence patience is a good!. Now, patience is the virtue that enables one to suffer time in order to have other goods!. Further, anyone who practices virtuous living becomes a better man, and to become better than we are is good!. Patience is intrinsic to the life of virtuous living!. Thus, if by "waiting" we mean "being patient", then surely we will receive at least some good from it!.

However, since talks of "the good life" and "virtuous living" is highly speculative in nature and also abstract, those of us living in a highly materialistic, scientific society tend to shun what cannot be observed under a microscope or in test tubes!. Unfortunately, for this reason Ethics, much like the rest of philosophy, has been moved to the "Arts and Humanities" department!. This may be why we tend to over look the goods that philosophy, especially Moral philosophy (Ethics) has to offer!. If we cannot touch or sense or immediately perceive some results through observation we tend to look else where!. People who have this sort of mentality usually don't have a love for the study of philosophy but rather of the special sciences!. Although, it's important to note that even though there are those who act this way, it isn't necessarily so that the special sciences and philosophy are incompatible, for they often must work together (contrary to what some would say)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
