Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: It refers to the novel 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy', in which a story is told of how an intelligent race of poeple developed an extremely advanced computer with which to come up with the answer to 'life, the universe and everything'!. The creators of the machine are disappointed when it informs them that it will take 7 million years to calcluate the asnwer!. So, thousands and thousands of generations later, the computer gives it's answer!. The answer is 42!. The people are confused and annoyed and don't understand!. The computer explains that 42 is the answer to the question, but that people don't actually know what the question is!. I'm not sure that I understand the question!. However, if this question pertains to the secret to life in general, the real answer is found within one word, "Balance," which ultimately consists of "positive" and/or "negative!." Everything in life has positives and negatives!. Contrary to popular misconception, everyone needs negatives, because without negatives, there can be no positives!. Look at the solar system, think about the structure of the atom, the social structure and organization of societies throughout the world - - everything has negative and positive forces!.
