Question: How difficult is it to learn guitar!?
I'm 17, and I've always wanted to learn how to play the acoustic guitar!

As far as my musical background goes, I absolutely love listening to music, but I'm not so good at playing instruments!.
I played the flute for 3 years in the school band, and I was pretty awful!.
I've also been taking piano lessons for 11 years, and I wasn't thaaaat bad!. I can read music, so that's a bonus!.
And I am pretty good at Guitar Hero and Rockband! (I know it's nothing like guitar, but!.!.!.)

So, here are my questions:

(1) How much do guitar lessons usually cost!? I'm talking weekly private lessons, about half and hour long!.

(2) Do you actually need a high quality guitar!? I have a Yamaha acoustic from !.!. Costco (hahaha)!. Is that good enough!?

(3) Any other teen girls who learned guitar out there!? How was your experience!?

Thanks in advance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have been playing the guitar since the march of last year!. I have never taken a single lesson, read a single book!. I have only read a small assortment of articles on a few guitar sites and the rest i have taught myself!. believe me, its not as hard as you think!. Just go to the internet and start by printing off a chord chart!. after this, just make a habit of practicing for 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a day!. After a while, it will be second nature to come into your house, take out your guitar and start jamming!. also, whenever you want to learn a new song just go to the internet and look on sites like Ultimateguitar!.com or Guitarnoise!.com (which also has a forum for Q's) and search for some easy ones!. If you are interested in finger picking, i would start by practicing your chords for a while til your fret hand gets more dexterous then search "how to finger pick" or "finger picking drills" these will help you get more agile with your picking hand!. If you want to learn something else, just google it! google has so many Guitar sources (web-sites, charts, pictures, reviews, songs!.!.!.) If you printed it all off there would be no trees left on the planet earth and your printer would be asking you for more paper!. (lol im going a bit overboard, but u get the idea!.)

And also, lucky you, this is my 100th answer! woot!Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!.) I take guitar lessons and I pay a hundred a month, 25 dollars a week!.
2!.) No you don't need to have a high quality guitar, i got mine from taget and its fine, and it only cost 70 dollars for a whole guitar+starter set!.
3!.) Ive been playing for a year!. I'll tell you right now that it was a hard road and i still consider myself a beginner, but it was definately worth it in my book!. You have to be determined at it, though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Guitar hero is ten million times diffferent than guitar!. Lessons can cost you abput 100 dolllars a month once a week for an hour!. I wouldnt get a high quality guitar until you decide to stick with it, but its definetely a rewarding experioence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know you were kidding, but Guitar Hero and Rockband are a billion times different than real guitar!. I mean Guitar Hero was honestly the reason why I started playing electric guitar, and when I started real guitar I was like, wow this is harder than it looks!. But besides the point!. The guitar you have right now is just fine for being a beginner!. But eventually, maybe a few months from now you are going to want to upgrade definitely if you are still playing!. The lessons I used to take were $60 a month, an hour a week!. So lessons are usually $50-$100 a month depending on how long your lesson is!. If you don't want to spend that much, you can always look up guitar lesson on youtube, there are hundreds, and I mean HUNDREDS of videos of guitar lessons available on youtube for you, ranging from the basics of scales and chords, to soloing like you are some huge badass!. I have been playing guitar for 2 years and I still use youtube as my main lesson place, though I don't need lessons anymore!. I am a 16 year old boy, playing for 2 years so far, and my experience was a little rough in the beginning, actually very rough in the beginning since I was self-taught for my first year and a half, but now I'm very skilled and it was all totally worth it! Good luck and keep on rockin!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Get the yamaha looked at by the store, see if its good, i normally say 150-200 bucks for a first guitar!.
Lessons depends on the place, so check your local music store!.

Though i would like to point out to the guy who said he is self taught is not self taught!. Nobody is self taught!. That would mean he figured out EVERYTHING by himself, songs by ear ect!.
He just did not take lessons, but he did learn through other sources (DVD's ect!.)
And unless he knows guitar theory he is useless, and theory is something that most "self taught" people don't think they need!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!. private lessons are normally around 30-90 dollars per hour, depending on the person charging

2!. you dont need a high-quality guitar if you are just starting out!.!.!. ann you really need is a guitar that works (frets aren't screwed up, nut depth is perfect)
as your your yamaha you got from costco, you should have that thing checked up at a guitar shop and see if there is nothing wrong with it

3!. im not a teen girl!.!.!. im a dude
and im self taught with the exception of a guitar class im taking this year in schoolWww@QuestionHome@Com

Not a teen girl but I learned the guitar when I was 16 so similar experience!.

If you have a musical background it will be easier but have no misconceptions it will be hard and frustrating to begin with, your fretting hand will need to get used to a really awkward new shape and your fingers will need to learn to press strings!. This will be hard but that's the same with any instrument!. After that it's really up to you, chords will take a while depending on how much you practice!.

get a nice cheap beginners guitar (something like a squire or a stagg) make sure the strings are easy to press down as this will help you a lot while you are learning!.

guitar lessons should be around £15 per half hour depending on the skill of the tutor!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
