Question: Can playing oboe really burst a blood vessel in your head!?
I play many instruments and I borrowed an oboe from my friend and then my mom's friend said that she heard that oboists can have blood vessels burst in their heads!. Is that true!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

That is an old myth!. They used to think that people that played the oboe went crazy from the pressure you feel in your head when you breathe!. Unlike most instruments you don't really blow all the air out through the instrument!. You have to let out all the "bad" air before you can take in the good air!. The most playing oboe will do is make you light headed if you aren't used to pressure!. No bursting blood vessels though! :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You need to take a nice full breath and use a good amount of air pressure to play an oboe, and sometimes there are long phrases to play, but if you learn the proper way to breathe for this instrument, there shouldn't be a problem!.
Double reed instruments require a different way to breathe than other instruments, which is one reason it is so difficult to learn!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know if it's because of burst blood vessels or oxygen deprivation!. Some say they just act that way naturally!. Never met an oboeist that wasn't somehow different!. Not always a bad thing!. Hey, it's supposed to be fun!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Wow!. I'm not sure!. I never heard that before!. I hope not because I'm learning how to play the oboe!. Lol I hope that isn't true!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
