I am a piano teacher, and I have several students who started as adults (most are older than 40)!. My experience with adults is that they can learn the piano just fine!. While the brain may not be as flexible as a younger persons, it is still more than capable of comprehending and responding to musical ideas and notations!. What I have noticed about adults that hinders their progress is a lack of practice!. Practicing is the key, but unlike students, adults don't have mommy or daddy looking over their shoulder forcing them to practice!. You have to to set aside a time each day to practice and make a routine out of it!. Adults tend to be very busy and involved in many things, so it is really easy to forget about practicing or keeping putting it off!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it was easier to learn any thing when we were young, but it is not imposable to learn now, I didn't know how to playing the guitar till I was forty and I started when I was thirty !.I never had any lessons and I taught my self to read music at the same time I was learning to play the guitar !. It was not easy but I did it and so can you if you really wont to!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is harder to learn how to play the piano as you get older!. If you try hard you still have a good chance of being really good at the piano, even at 24!. Especially if you really love music!. On the other hand it might be a little easier for older people to learn to play the piano, especially if you have played another instrument and know how to read music!. The comprehension is a lot easier as an adult!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your never too old to learn a musical instrument!.

It's easier for a young person to learn anything because your brain is wired for learning while your young!. However you are still young at 24 so you'll learn only slightly slower than a teen!. After that it's a matter of how determined and interested you are in learning!.

Me I didn't pick up the guitar until I was 19!. I started on bass at 17!. By my early 20s I was gigging and an accomplished guitarist and bass player!. Then I quite playing for a while!. Biggest mistake I ever made!. Wound up re-learning in my early 30s!. I picked it back up in short order despite not touching a guitar or bass for 3 years and only playing once in a while for a couple years before that!. In six months I was playing in bands again!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's definitely easier to learn younger but also easier to forget younger!. I didn't learn piano until I was 19 and it was fairly easy to pick it up!. At least as an adult, your fingers are as big as they will ever be so you won't have to worry about changing finger size to affect your playing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
