Question: Guitar too low for me to palm mute!?
I've always practice guitar everyday!. I learned everything, from chords to taps to pinches!. One problem I have is!.!.!. after seeing how my friends would like me a band!.!.!. I have trouble playing while standing!. I've practiced sitting down the entire time!. The main problem with standing is that the guitar is too far down for me to palm mute and makes it almost impossible!. I let the guitar hang about as low as my waist (like most guitarists) but my arms are a tad bit too short to reach that bridge to palm mute!. Is there a way to actually get this done without having to tighten the strap to make the guitar higher!? (I look very silly with a guitar hung higher than my waist T!.T)Www@QuestionHome@Com

No way whatsoever!.

It's a tradeoff between looking cool and sound good!. In all seriousness though it can't be that much of a differene and if it effects your playing than I'd just raise it!.

If you look weird but play good than most people won't care!. If you look "cool" but can't play for ****!.!. well that's just self explanitoryWww@QuestionHome@Com

Lots of guitarists sit to play!.!.!.wear it wherever you need to play properly when standing!.!.!.spend part of your practice time standing!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Andrew has it right, spot on!.

If you can't play it properly all hung low, then raise it!.

Look at the professionals some time, the people who really know how to play their guitars!.!.!. they have them hiked up pretty high, and they don't care what people think!.

Tom Morello keeps his guitar up pretty high - never bothered him!

Me, I'd rather play my guitar well and *sound* good, then try to look cool and sound like crap because I'm more concerned about *fashion* than the *music*!

And yes, I do hike my guitar up a bit past my waist!. The last band I played with, the other guitarist was "cool" and kept his slung low!. He also drank before shows a lot of the time!. It took recordings of the shows for him to realize how much doing both of those things made him play horribly!. Me, I've not had that problem!.!.!. I can play to the best of my ability because I made the decision that no matter *what* I looked like, the only thing that really mattered was being the best musician I could possibly be!.

You will have to make that decision for yourself, as to what you want to be, and what you're willing to do to make it happen!.
