4) and cut time?

Question: Whats the difference between common time (4/4) and cut time!?

I do know that cut time is usually marches!. but I still can't really tell the difference between the two time signatures!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The first two answers are kind of iffy!. Cut time doesn't change the value of the notes as they imply!.
Rather, cut time changes the "feel" of the music, making it seem to go twice as fast!. This can also be called Double Time Feel!.

The time signature becomes 2/2, which means two half notes in each measure, as compared to 4/4, which is four quarter notes per measure!. You will notice that two half notes is the same value as four quarter notes, but this just simplifies the notation and once again makes the music feel twice as fast!.

It can also depend on the song or piece!. The same composer may use 2/4 for another piece, which is two quarter notes per measure!. In turn, they would have to have twice as many measures in the piece!. It would be the same as having 4/4, but the conductor conducts in 2, and the feel is twice as fast!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

cut time is in the time signature of 2/2!. it halves the value of all the notes, giving the half note the beat!. many composers write in this time signature to help simplify the look of the music and to avoid writing many bars for 16th and 32nd notes!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
