Well, the best guitar for you is with the style of the guitar you wish to play!. Any guitar really can play any genre of music it is all a matter of opinion and what suits your needs!.

For Technical guitar work I stick my my Jackson and Ibanez brand of guitar for the wider fret board and string spacing so I can Access all the strings I need with ease and do the proper bends etc!.

Fender Stratocaster is good for the classic rock sound though I hate the necks for how thin and close the strings are on it!.

Some classic musicians and metal musicians like Van Halen use to play Peavy Guitars for the feel of a fender style guitar but with the wider fret board for string space and technicality!.

It all opinions though you should play the guitar you want to upgrade from!. Switch around with many models and brands till you find the guitar that makes you want to play!. Everyone can be opinionated and say play gibson, fender, etc but it all matters with what you want from your guitar and how you play!. Each brand and model of guitar can suit anyones needs if you look for the right guitar!. And if there is a guitar you like the most they do make brands for the economic musicians like how gibson has epiphone, Fender has squire, Music Man has OLP guitars and so on!.

Though I still stay true to jackson and Ibanez because Jackson guitars make Ibanez (a shock or what!?)!. I personally play Jackson and like them more so than Gibson and Fender because it suits what I love to play and my needs with alittle tweeking of the neck, string possition, and pick ups!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If your into 'shredding' - that annoying play as many classical notes as fast as possible with shrieking distortion - Then Ibanez, Shecter, Jackson!. They are all similar!. The things to aim for are set necks, mahogany, solid, and string through the body!. And brand name pickups like Seyour Duncan!. I think you can get all that under $300, or most of it!. Good tuners are nice!. Otherwise, they all have entry level models that are very similar - just try and get the one you want with the idea of getting something better later!. Many players don't even want mahogany and feel fine with lighter and brighter woods!.

Most shredders have gone from the Epiphone Les Paul/SG to these guitars above since they are more 'strat' like and have a higher frequency shrill!. The Les Paul was made for Jazz, and has great sustain, and of course was the 80's rock guitar, but I prefer the Mexican strat (I would not recommend the squire)!.

The Mexican strat enters the picture at $370 somewhere!. That is a fine guitar!. This guitar is great for playing blues, types of jazz, country, folk, and it's single coil pickups are great for creative expression!. As a shredder, not it's not optimal, but it can shred!. The most famous anti-strat player was Van Halen, who popularized the idea of making better strats with humbuckers and thinner necks - all of which the popular shredder guitars I spoke about above came from!.

The semi-hollows and hollows are not really worth buying until you get to the higher priced Epiphones!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ibanez makes affordable quialty guitars!. Try to stay away from low price Fender, they are notoriously bad!. ( fret buzzing, tight neck)Www@QuestionHome@Com

As a starting guitar a fender will be great!. But as you progress you may want to get a gibsonWww@QuestionHome@Com
