Question: I just had my first solo piano performance and it sucked!?
made mistakes on every single piece!. i didn't feel very nervous but dunno why did stuff like playing a part that didn't go there, forgot some chords!. actually the hardest ones wasn't too bad!. I think that's because on the easy ones my head is usually somewhere else!. So does that mean I suck as I pianist, I mean I made mistakes on every single piece!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it was your first performance, don't worry!. You'll get better!. That's why you do recitals, so you can get some experience in playing in front of people!. It's much different from playing by yourself!.

If you go to many concerts you see that -everyone- makes mistakes!. They learn to go on like nothing happened, and usually nobody realizes it but themselves, or someone who knows the piece really well!. We are so used to listening to CDs that are the same every time we play them, that we don't realize live performances all contain errors!.

Normally, when you perform in front of an audience it helps to keep from being nervous by knowing the material inside and out, being thoroughly practiced and rehearsed!. But this is more true of giving a speech or acting in a play than it is for performing music!. I think it's possible to be -too- well rehearsed with music!. The other thing that helps with 'stage fright' is just doing it, and every time you get a little more comfortable, a little less nervous!.

So don't get upset and dwell on how sucky you were!. Just forget it!. You'll be better next time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, I make mistakes all the time too!. Just focus more, practice the rough spots, and every part of the piece easy or hard is equally important so don't just think one part is easy and blow it off!.

But no you're not a bad pianist, nobody is a bad pianist as far as im concerned!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you feel that your performance was that bad, then you can only improve!. Keep on practicing, and don't give up!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

no it means you should keep your mind focused on what your doing!. I should be in seventh grade but I'm in sixth because my mind always drifts off during math!. There's a lesson I won't soon forget!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
