Question: What is the best way to begin learning how to play guitar!? Any book suggestions!?
I'm getting a guitar for Christmas (I'm almost positive that its an acoustic) and I have never touched one before in my life!. I have no clue how to go about this but I know I really want to learn to play songs by The Beatles!. Should I be getting a "guitar for dummies" type book first, or will I be able to start with something like a Beatles guitar book!?
also, does anyone have any recommendations on books that are helpful to beginner acoustic guitarists!? (Especially Beatles ones!)
Thanks to anyone who can help! :]Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The best easy-read with clear explanations book I have found is: "How To Play Guitar"by Roger Evans
-Everything You Need To Know To Play Guitar-
(a best seller since 1979) cost $10!.95
at your local book store or they can order it for you!.

Once you go thru this book (124 pages ) any
other guitar learning or music book will be much easier to understand and make good progress!.

Before you get your new guitar -
the first 15 pages of this book will be
of great help in assisting you to
choose the "right-type" of guitar for you,
(based on your musical tastes and ambitions)!.

Eventually for additional progress
you may want to get a "qualified"
guitar teacher- meaning one who
knows how to read music!.
You will be surprise of how many
"teachers" of guitar cannot read music
and only teach you what they know
about chords and the few songs they play!.
To add insult to injury they charge the
same as a bona-fide musician teacher
of guitar will charge!.

When you feel ready for a teacher
always ask for their qualifications!.
If they cannot read music - move on -
don't waste your money!.

Enoy your guitar and practice,practice,
practice from 45 min!. to 1 hour daily!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was going to say lessons but good thing I read the details of your question! :-)

If you're a visual learner you'll benefit GREATLY from buying Teach Yourself Visually Guitar!. Lots of color pictures and it dabbles in different styles; it talks about problems with your guitar and all sorts of stuff, all the while teaching you chords, notes, songs, etc!.

Use cyberfret!.com too for free beginner lessons!. Chalk full of articles on practicing and stuff!.

After getting past the basics then buy a Beatles songbook!. I believe there's a book out there that just has their songs with the chords to play them (chord diagrams included)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are the fourth person TODAY i have said this too
get a teacher
nothing compares to a teacher there telling you were to improve, when you make mistakes, if your playing to fast, or give you encouragement!.
