I take it that the guitar is new with new strings!. Even after you tune it, the strings will continue to stretch and it will go out of tune again!. Start with the first string at the bottom, should be plain wire, no wrap on it!. Forget the electric tuner!. Keep plucking that first string until it sounds pretty high, stop every once in a while and push on the string at about the third or fourth fret, to make sure it isn't to tight!. It should still have some looseness to it and you can push it down to touch the metal of the frets!. Now go to the next string up, hold it down with your finger on the string and at the fourth fret!. Keep plucking it until it sounds like the same sound as the first one!. Pluck it, stop and tighten the second string and keep doing this until they sound the same!. Go to the third string, some are plain and some are wound, hold it down at the fifth fret and do the same until it sounds like the second string!. You are not holding the first two strings at this point, they are open!. Then go to the fourth string, hold it down at the fifth fret and do the same with it and the remaining two strings at the top!. When you hold down the top string and pluck the secondone down from the top, those should sound the same and so on!. Just remember, the second plain string at the bottom you hold down on the fourth fret!. Once this is down, which is called tuning by ear, you should be able to play like a G or C or E chord and if one of them still sounds off, you'll be able to hear it, like the E chord!. You strum it from the top string to the bottom, and like I said, you'll be able to hear one if it's off by struming down slowly!. And also you should know that on some keys you don't strum all the strings, like a D chord, you never hit the top string when playing in D, just the other 5!. I hope I didn't get you to confused, and when you do learn to play, either by reading music or playing by ear sound, you'll love it!. You finger tips will hurt really bad when you first start because you have to hold the strings down hard enough so they don't sound like they are fibrating, and your finger tips will develop calusus, then they won't hurt!. also keep your finger nails cut short!. I hope I didn't confuse you to much, but playing will be enjoyable and you have to have an ear for music!. Wishing you the very best and good luck on getting that thing tuned!. It will get easier with time!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

OK the notes on the strings are, from the lowest to the highest:
EADGBe!. The highest string is E above middle C

Depending on the tuner, switch it on, and clip it to the guitar, or if it uses a built in mic, hold the guitar near it!. It will have a system of lights, or a needle that moves!. Either way, start on the lowest string, and pluck it!. Turn the machine head to raise or lower the note until the tuner tells you that the string is in tune by lighting up or by the needle pointing to the right note!. Repeat for each string, bearing in mind that the highest string is the one most likely to break if you tune it too high!.
When you tuned all the strings, play a chord such as E to see if it sounds right!.If it doesn't check each string individually!.

Hope this helps
