Well if you want electric, get a Squier Special Strat from Musician's Friend!. It's a nice guitar for the money (about 200), plus it comes with an amp , cable, strap, stand, tuner, picks, and gig bag!. I own one and I've never had a problem!. Plus it's available in a nice three-tone sunburst!.
Check it out: http://guitars!.musiciansfriend!.com/produ!.!.!.

I learned to play with a cheap chord book that can be found at any music store!. I just learned my major chords!. (A,B,C,D,E,F,G) That took about a week!. Then I taught myself some easy songs using tablature i got off of www!.ultimate-guitar!.com (smoke on the water, ironman, cat scratch fever)!. Before you try to get tabs though, go to this site:http://www!.howtotuneaguitar!.org/lessons/!.!.!.

Hope I helped you out!. Good luck and don't get discouraged!. if u just keep at it eventually you'll break through trust meWww@QuestionHome@Com

the best place to start learning about theory like notes and such is school!. if you've finished school go to a library, theres bound to be something there and some of the books i've read are very detailed!. you could also search in wikipedia!. though i personally don't think wikipedia is very good it may have what you are looking for!.

also it doesn't matter what you learn on whether it be electric or acoustic!. when buying your guitar you get what you pay for, of course not everyone can afford the best but i'm just throwing that outthere for you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

please listen and belive me!.!.!.i guarentee you this will help

i have told my friends this and have taught a few how to play guitar

basically once you have your guitar, you teach youself, dont get lessons, dont take guitar class, like me and many others, the best thing to do is teach yourself!. you read what is known as "tabs"!. once you can read these (self explanitory, anybody can read them) it will come to you naturally!. its a lot easier then it looksWww@QuestionHome@Com

Start by checking out a Fender Squire Pack!.!.try www!.musiciansfriend,com-!. great way to start!. Lessons are the fastest way to learn!. But if you cannot do that, you can learn on your own, but you will have to be dedicated!. Get a good beginners book with chord charts in it, and then look for lessons on youtube and the likes!. Many of the greats are self-taught! Now get busy!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

So you are a beginner ! Then I think you better go with the acoustic!. You will feel bit easy and comfortable learning it rather electric!. Go for the epiphone or Les Paul!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the only way to learn is to get a guitar and just start trying!Www@QuestionHome@Com
