If you want to become a rhythm guitarist, tune your guitar to drop D (drop your low E string to D) and just play the three low strings straight across!. Find progressions that sound cool, speed things up, add some distortion and palm muting, and you got yourself a brutal song!. If you want to go for an even heavier sound, tune to drop B!. This doesn't take too long to get the hang of and sounds pretty good!. The more in depth stuff will come with time!. Drop D is cruise control for cool!. Www@QuestionHome@Com OK!.!. so you wanna shred!!.!.!.!. Ask yourself these questions first! 1!. Do you have much time per day, every day that you can spend practicing guitar!? (e!.g!. 1-2 hrs, ideally 4 hrs minimum!?) 2!. Are you disciplined in that you have a good attention span!? 3!. Do you enjoy repetitive boring jobs!? 4!. Can you clap your hands to a basic rhythm!? If you answered NO to any of these questions then you are in trouble! Start with easy peasy runs/licks!.!.!. then up the tempo and nail the lick, then up the tempo then nail the lick, then up the tempo then nail the lick, then up the tempo then nail the lick! You gotta make sure you nail it each time!.!.!. If you are struggling with the lick, then break down the lick into smaller parts!.!. so for example if you are having trouble with a lick that has say 12 notes in it, break that lick into smaller parts and nail the first 2 or 3 notes!.!.!. then the next 2 or three, then join them together and nail the 5 or 6 notes!. Start as slow as you can so that you nail it!.!.!. the key is to nail it no matter how slow, then work your way up gradually, with slightly faster and faster tempo!.!.!. but you have to make sure you nail it each time!.
