Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Farinelli was very famous in the XVIIIth century although we'll never hear his voice! Caruso is considered as the best italian singer ever too ,and contemporary enough to find records oh his singing!. The 3 tenors, Pavarotti, Carreras et Domingo are probably the most famous singers of this generation, simply because they brought Opera to the mass culture, singing for charities, television broadcasting and even football games!.
