Question: Do recorders make your voice sound different when you sing or talk!?
I singing well and whenever I record myself singing I ask my brother what he thinks!. He says that it doesn't really sound like me and I sound better in real life!. Is it true that recorders make your singing voice or just plain speaking voice different!? And do cameras and mics' count in this category of recorders!? I use my 6!.0 mega pixel camera and my cell phone with a 2!.0 mega pixel camera to record myself singing!. Are these good or bad!? What is a really good recorder to purchase!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The megapixels on cameras and cell phones don't take sound quality into account, those numbers only describe video/picture quality!.

Microphones are filters, and will change your voice (singing or speaking) to some extent!. Cell phones and webcams tend to have small microphones (piezo, I think) that favor treble frequencies over bass, and can be easily overloaded by loud or bass-heavy sounds!.

Good microphones will more truly represent your voice and can make your voice sound better!.!.!. the best way to record yourself is to use a real microphone, one that you would use when singing on stage!.

You should be able to pick up a decent mic and USB interface for less than 300$, probably much less if you shop right!. Ideally I would suggest the Shure SM58 (around 100$ us), it's a rock-solid vocal mic, possibly the only one you will ever need, until you want to get serious and get a condenser mic, that is!. The benefit of a dynamic mic like the SM58 is that they tend to be pretty rugged and don't require external power (aka phantom power), while condenser mics aren't and do respectively (ie, they're studio only mics)!. They're also more expensive!. They sound beautiful, though, with lots of treble and high end response that dynamic mics can't quite capture!.
