The first step is to tune the low E string (thickest string)
If you have perfect pitch, you can tune this string yourself, as well as the rest of the strings :p
If not, you can't tune it absolutely, but you can relatively tune the strings with each other!. Only thing is you can't play with another guitarist or bassist, unless you guys sync up!.

After you have the E down, you can tune the next string!. The 5th fret on the E should be the same as the open note next string, A!. The 5th fret A is the same as open D, etc!. The only exception is the 4th fret on G is the same as open B!.
