I taught myself using this really good book called the Guitar Manual by Gary Turner and Peter Gelling!. It's supposed to take you from complete beginner to expert guitarist and includes theory, notes, chords, songs, playalong CD and loads of other stuff and you can probs get it pretty cheap online on something like eBay or Amazon!. I also found a pretty good free site to use--go onto about!.com and then guitar and find the section on lessons and its basically like reading a book and sometimes has video tutorials!.
Two other tips are make sure ur fingernails are short and also classical guitars with nylon strings are easiest to learn on!. hope that helps XXXWww@QuestionHome@Com

when you say you can't afford guitar lessons, are you basing this on prices you have seen at studios!? If so, check with the music schools in local universities and see if they have students who teach on campus!. This way, you have a young energetic person with passion for the instrument, and you stand a better chance of not teaching yourself bad habits that are very hard to unlearn!.

Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you dont need much theory!. you should have started on an acoustic, to build finger strength, and I would recommend finding a way to get lessons!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
