Question: Beginner Piano question!?
I am trying to learn to get my hands to be independent!. Like in a C major scale over 2 octaves, I end up on the wrong fingers half the time!. Is there a pneumonic or some other device that would make it easier!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Try each hand separately then try both hands together slowly!. also don't worry about getting the whole 2 octaves down on your first try!. Take it in chunks!. Practice the first 5 notes only!. Once you have that, practice the next 5 notes!. Put them together and you have over half of your 2 octave scale!. Taking things apart like this can help you understand what you're doing better!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most of my students overcome this by learning the C-sharp major scale first!. (2-3 on the group of two white notes, 2-3-4 on the group of three black notes)!. By the time they've mastered this, they usually have the feel for the fingering on all the scales!. If you have problems remembering which white notes are correct, you can try it for F-sharp major (the two white keys are F and B, on either side of the group of three black keys)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, try one octave only, and think 3rd fingers always together, thumbs never together!. Force yourself to play hands together as much as possible, that is the only way you are going to get better at it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
