Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Acoustic, electric or hybrid!. It doesn't really matter!.
It's only a question of personal tastes and what you intend to play
most of the time!. If you go electric, there's the additional expense
of a decent amp to consider!. The most important point is to get
the best guitar you can afford!. Even if it means delaying your purchase
in order to save-up more!. The wait is worth it!. A cheap guitar is
a false economy!. You cheat yourself!. I've known lots of potential
players who gave it up because it was too hard to play and/or
didn't sound good - all the time, the problem wasn't them, but
rather a cheap, poor quality guitar!. I would strongly suggest spending
a minimum of 600 dollars for the guitar alone!. And around $ 1,000
for a greater selection!. If this is a first time purchase, you should go
to a trustworthy dealership and buy new!.!. That way, if there's a problem, you'll
at least some kind of warranty to protect you!. And you may find new
instruments on sale!. Don't be afraid to haggle!.
A good quality guitar will sound better, be more reliable, and easier
to play!. And have a greater sale/trade-in value!.
Don't hesitate to ask the salesperson any questions you may have,
it's their job to answer them!. If they have a problem with this,
find a different store -Quick!. If you find one you really like, but don't
have enough money, try the lay-away method!.
They put it away for you (for a down payment) and you pay the rest
later!. Most stores offer 90 days!. That way, they will still have it
when you're ready to take it home, and no one will have been
messing with it since!.
Critical points: 1/ spend at least $600 2/ Buy new from a reputable
dealer 3/Look for sales 4/Shop around!. Try different guitars in different stores, and return to the guitar you liked best when you've
decided!. 5/ Ask questions 6/ Haggle 7/ Try alternate payment plans
like lay-away!. 8/ Be patient, take your time, consider your options
carefully before making a final decision!.
Good Luck !

First of all, make sure your guitar is red!. Red guitars sound warmer than black guitars and white guitars sound way too bright!. If you're going to play the blues, blue guitars are right out!.

But seriously, I almost always recommend that beginners start with acoustic!. Epiphone, Takamine, Ibanez are decent middle tier guitars in the $200+ range!. Begin with the heaviest strings possible to build up initial hand/finger strength and callouses!. Once you can handle that, electric guitars and lighter gauge strings will feel like butter!. I still go up to a heavier gauge string occassionally, with at least one guitar, just to have one that gives me a bit of a work out!.

BUY A CHEAP CLASSICAL ACOUSTIC OFF OF EBAY, yamaha makes some really nice sounding ones and used can be had for way under a hundred bucks, that way, you will have an easier time getting your fingers used to the string with less pain, (nylon strings) and if you decide not to stay with it, you aren;t out a whole lot of money!. you can play any style of music on a classical, even death metal if it has a pickup and you put effects on it!. plus, a classical has a wider fret board so your fingers have more room to fret and not mute other strings, better results faster, good luck with your musicWww@QuestionHome@Com

1st of all, never use a Squier!. Squiers are the worst brand names and break down within 3 months!. If you want a good guitar for a low price, use either Yamaha, Epiphone, or Ibanez!. I got an Epiphone PR150 for 100 bucks, and it feels like a professional guitar!. Many people on the internet agree!.
It's good to use an acoustic first so your fingers build strength to get used to the stringsWww@QuestionHome@Com
