Question: What can you all tell me about opera as a profession!?
Can anyone give me some general information!. I would love to study music, voice in particular of course, but I dont know how plausible this field is as a career!. I have two little boys and am 21 years old, so needless to say I am not able to put very much time and money into something that would not pay off in the future!. Any opinions!? also, silly question!.!.!.I am only 5'1'', does anyone think that would bar me from being successful!? I know that sounds off topic but I havent ever seen any short opera singers : /!. Ty all :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

Unless you ALREADY have many years of serious vocal training, and a degree or the equivalent in Opera Theater, then you are INCREDIBLY far behind!. Being a Mom is also a liability - you need to devote ALL of yourself to your career!. And the price of lessons, coaches, accompanists, travel, hotels - YIKES!!! Being short in stature is not the factor - being short on education, time, money, and ( although we have never ye heard you sing an aria) possibility ability - this is what matters!. Sorry to bear bad news - but I have been a professional classical musician since 1971, and was able to blend it with a family by choosing to teach school for many years in the middle - and THAT required me to get a BM and a MM ( I also have a second BM) - and then we always kept up our performing!. NOT EASY - and we had secure jobs! I do ot think that with those two wonderful children, that there is any ope in the near future of opera study, let alone an operatic career - unless you are married to a millionaire, and have a full-time nanny!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
