Question: What is a backing track!?

i'm thinking about auditioning for the school musical!.
and they want us to sing a song for the auditions only we have to provide a backing track for it!.

and i don't know what a backing track is!.

I produce these for my live piano performances!. It is a recorded musical accompaniment!. So let's say that we were friends and you asked me to play the piano for you, but it so happens that on the same day I plan to eat Chicago pizza on the moon with my friends!. Therefore what I would do is get together with you and record the song while you sang and I played the piano!. Yet the recorder would only copy the piano performance!. Then I would master the song to a CD!. So when you sing the song for your audition, the performance would sound as though I was there playing the piano!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is a track of the the song that you want to sing without vocals, similar to a karaoke track!.

It is the musical accompaniment!.

If you are stuck, try to get a copy of the karaoke track to the song you want to sing, or more expensively, have one recorded for yourself by a reputable musician!. (Can be expensive)Www@QuestionHome@Com

As others have said, it's the music accompaniment track without your solo part !. Kind of like the Music Minus One series that let you practice flute pieces (or whatever instrument) of high-caliber works w/out needing a symphony!

Good luck at your audition - I hope you get the part you're aiming for!. But if you don't, and they need singers for the chorus, that's always fun, too!.
