SIRknuckles,
Go with the ukulele!. If you're pretty goo with a guitar you'll have no problem playing a ukulele b/c if you can chord above the 5th fret on a guitar the first four strings are the strings on a ukulele!. (GCEA) You could put a capo on your fifth fret and strum/pick only the first four strings to get a feel for it!.
Because your good with a guitar I'd suggest a Lanikai LU-21T or LU-21TE!. http://www!.musiciansfriend!.com/navigatio!.!.!. Both tenor ukuleles except the TE has a pickup!. Tenor ukuleles are larger than the original soprano, larger spacing between the frets, and give you a fuller sound!.
Here's a chord chart and some songs to look at!. You'll find it real easy!.

Ukelele is one choice!. I think they make some bigger Ukes, too, that aren't just the little tiny ones everyone is familiar with!.

You might try a Lute, which is basically guitar like:

Maybe a mandolin, which are also smaller, almost ukelele sized,

There are all sorts of stringed instruments, many of them are ethnic and are only suitable for a narrow range of music!.

But Ukes, mandolins and a lute can be adapted to many styles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
