Question: I really want to learn snare drum! Help!?
So I'm playing in the pit for the second year in a row for my school's drumline, and I'm hating it still!. I got forced into it because our pit is very small!. I've been wanting to play snare drum for awhile, and our drumline has one opening!. I'm not a brilliant marcher, but I'd be willing to work hard to learn snare!.

I want to ask the instructor, but I have a feeling he'll say again "We need you in pit more!." If this is the case, I think I'd want to drop drumline!. Is that selfish!? I know that I should go where the drumline needs me the most, but I'm giving a lot of my time and a lot of my money to be in drumline, and I want to be playing an instrument I actually want to play!. What should I do!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Talk to your band director, and if they need you in the pit more, explain to him that you hate pit and that you feel it's just not worth the work to be in pit!. If he still feels the same way, then I would quit!. The whold point of band is to have fun, not to sit in the pit being bored!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry you are hating it!.
Talk to the instructor!. You will have to eventually!. Even after you learn snare!.
If the instructor refuses, then you have a decision to make!.
