So I'm playing in the pit for the second year in a row for my school's drumline, and I'm hating it still!. I got forced into it because our pit is very small!. I've been wanting to play snare drum for awhile, and our drumline has one opening!. I'm not a brilliant marcher, but I'd be willing to work hard to learn snare!.
I want to ask the instructor, but I have a feeling he'll say again "We need you in pit more!." If this is the case, I think I'd want to drop drumline!. Is that selfish!? I know that I should go where the drumline needs me the most, but I'm giving a lot of my time and a lot of my money to be in drumline, and I want to be playing an instrument I actually want to play!.
