Question: Drum line dilemma, I want to play snare!?
So I'm playing in the pit for the second year in a row for my school's drumline, and I'm hating it still!. I got forced into it because our pit is very small!. I've been wanting to play snare drum for awhile, and our drumline has one opening!. I'm not a brilliant marcher, but I'd be willing to work hard to learn snare!.

I want to ask the instructor, but I have a feeling he'll say again "We need you in pit more!." If this is the case, I think I'd want to drop drumline!. Is that selfish!? I know that I should go where the drumline needs me the most, but I'm giving a lot of my time and a lot of my money to be in drumline, and I want to be playing an instrument I actually want to play!. What should I do!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I understand completely where you're coming from! I was in band and know the time commitment it takes!. First off, ask yourself this, "Do I enjoy band!? Do I enjoy the people that I work with!? Do I feel driven to do better!?" Questions like these are vital! Because band takes up sooo much time, you need to be sure that you have your heart in it!. It doesn't have to be the profession that you will have all your life!.!.!.but if you don't have drive to do it, you're going to be pretty miserable!.

If you have your heart set on drum line!.!.!.go for it! If your instructor says he thinks you should be in the pit!.!.!.but there's an opening in the drum line!.!.!.!. SHOW him you can do it!. Practice extra on marching! Practice extra on your drum!! SHOW him that you will not give up until you are on the line! To be on the line you have to have drive and determination!. If he thinks you can't do it, he'll write you off without a second thought!. Show him that you can!

The important thing you need to keep in mind is "do you want it" and "how badly do you want it" and "what will you do to get it!?" Keep in mind your happiness!. Band can put hair on your chest like nothing else! But it takes up a lot of time!. You sleep a lot less, work much harder, and are expected to be able to do a lot more!. But the fact that this is your second year!.!.!.you've made it this far! I know you can do it!

what are you on in drumline, bass, crash cymbals, tris/quads!? what!? Well you should show him you're potential!. Show him that you can be an excellent snare player by playing something before school!. I am on a drumline and I have the same problems with marching, the key is to stay in-step!. remember, odd beats = left foot, even= right foot!. If you need extra help talk to your drum major, listen to teh songs at home and get it together!. If he still refuses to upgrade you after all this leave!.!.!.!. or come to my school we have 1 snare, 1 quad, 1 cymbal, 1 bells, and 2 bass drums one of which is the size of a frggin floor tom!. lol!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
