Question: How do I get into Julliard!?
I love to sing and act!. I've been going to singing lessons for the past 4 months, I'm 15 and in 10th grade and I really really want to get into this school!. I have okay grades and next semester I might start attending a performing arts school for musical theatre and the vocal arts!. My dream is to someday be on broadway or in some off-broadway production!. Any suggestions!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's great that you're getting such an early start thinking about where you want to go to college!.

If you want to go to Juilliard, you should start here:

http://www!.juilliard!.edu/admissions/gene!.!.!.

This gives you the current admission requirements!. It's not likely to change *that* much between now and when you will be applying!. Once you know what they require for admission, you can then work toward meeting those requirements: improving your GPA if necessary, making sure you have the training to prepare you for the auditions, etc!.

I'd print out the list of things they require, and make sure you have everything covered by the time you enter your senior year in high school!. For example, Voice at Juilliard is a "pre-screened" audition, meaning you have to send in a recording and if they like you, they'll invite you to come for a live audition!. So you need to be able to come up with a recording that includes
1!. An Italian art song or aria from 18th century or before!.
2!. An art song in English (not a translation)!.
3!. A third selection in any language!.
4!. If English is not your native speaking language, an
additional song in your native language!.
(that's from the 2009 undergrad audition requirements !.pdf)

So you need to be learning some Italian art songs, probably from "24 Italian Songs and Arias" (Schirmer publisher) -- and some art songs in English!. That way, when the time comes, you'll have a few already learned that you can polish for your audition recording!.

If you decide to audition for drama, there's no prescreening, but the audition requires some preparation (4 monologues, 2 of them classical in verse or blank verse, at least one of the classical monologues must be Shakespeare, etc!.)!.

If you go there, you'll major in drama or in music, and the approach at Juilliard will be more "classical" in nature!. It will definitely prepare you for a possible performance career -- but it won't be strictly musical theater!.

Soooo !.!.!. that should get you started! Starting now will help you prepare much better than someone who waits until the beginning of their senior year to start the process!. Good for you!
