Not only is it the most recommended and popular clarinet on the market!.!.!. it also retains its resale value for when or if you want to sell it later!. You cannot get much of a nice, new wood clarinet for $500 but there are plenty of used ones available if you research and look!. You have been playing clarinet for 3 years, meaning you are probably fairly advanced!. I am thinking that a resonite/plastic clarinet is way below your playing and skill level!. You will need a nice competitve solid wood instrument to continue your development!. The Buffet models that you could consider are E-11 / C-13 / or the International!. You should be able to find one of these used!.!.!. in good condition!.!.!. for what you are looking to pay!. Now if you simply cannot find Buffet!.!.!. you still need the solid wood clarinet!. Other decent brands are Selmer / Yamaha / Leblanc / Normandy!. Just remember!.!.!. the better sound will come from wood!. also, pay attention to the mouthpiece you get for your clarinet!. But if you want to buy a new plastic clarinet, I would recommend a Buffet B12 Bb clarinet because, in my opinion, this clarinet projects better than the other plastic clarinets!. If you want to buy a new wooden clarinet, I would start out with a Yamaha YCL-450 Bb Intermediate Clarinet because I really like the tone that this clarinet produces!.
