Question: Attn Guitar Players, Want to start playing, any suggestions!?
I have been playing the drums for about 8 years, but i sold my drumset like two years ago!. Now i want to start playing music again, i miss playing so much its crazy like an itch i can't scratch!. well as you may know drum kits aren't exactly the cheapest pieces of equipment, and money is hard right now!. but guitars don't cost all that much so i was thinking i would start learning the guitar, i mean ive learned a little bit a long the way but i am looking to make this a hobby!. so where you come in is i need a little help on picking out the right guitar for me!. i have talked to a lot of my buddies that play guitar and they said that acoustic is the way to go if you want to start learning the guitar, anyways i need some ideas on some good beginner guitars!. i currently subscribe to musicians friend catalog and i always see those acoustic guitar starter packs that come with everything you need to get started!. but which brand you think would be best, quality wise and something that won't brake my bank if you know what i mean!. thanks all answers are much appreciated!. opinions are welcome!. thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good for you for picking up guitar! It's a great instrument!.

First, your friends are right: acoustic is the way to go for beginners just because it gets your hands ready for electric-if you were to "upgrade" to that later on!. The reason!? Because the acoustic is bigger you have to reach more and since the strings are harder to press down to produce sound, your fingers will get stronger!. (Electric will be much easier if you start this way)!.

Some good acoustic brands are as follows:
-Taylor
-Ibanez (I own one)
-Takamine

I suggest you not buy a starter pack because that's too much stuff for a beginner!. If you break a string, go out and buy a pack or two!. Gradually get things for your guitar because you may not want to play anymore for whatever reason so that starter pack will go to waste wouldn't it!? (Plus, starter packs don't always have the best guitars)!.

Once you have your guitar-ask your local music store employee to help you choose the best one-if you REALLY want to learn the guitar (and I mean you want to reach the level of playing that your favorite guitarist has reached) look into private lessons!. The music store that you bought your guitar from may offer lessons, so ask!. Remember that guitar teachers (and any other private instructor) are not licensed, and you usually get what you pay for!.

I had to go through two teachers to land the one I've had for almost four years!. If you really want to learn and play well, you won't let setbacks get to you!. Oh, and you can use-in addition to lessons-ultimateguitar!.com (to learn songs once your ear is at a decent level and you learn how to read tab and chord charts), and cyberfret!.com (it offers lessons and a lot of articles to keep you inspired)!.

Whoo, my fingers are tired!.

But have fun playing, even though at the beginning it may not seem as such!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know this isn't really your question, but this should help if you plan on teaching yourself!. I have been playing the guitar since the march of this year!. I have only read a small assortment of articles on a few guitar sites and the rest i have taught myself!. believe me, its not as hard as you think!. Just go to the internet and start by printing off a chord chart!. after this, just make a habit of practicing for 30 mins 2 or 3 times a day!. After a while, it will be second nature to come into your house, take out your guitar and start jamming!. also, whenever you want to learn a new song just go to the internet and look on sites like Ultimateguitar!.com or Guitarnoise!.com (which also has a forum for Q's) and search for some easy ones!. If you are interested in finger picking, i would start by practicing your chords for a while til your fret hand gets more dexterous then search "how to finger pick" or "finger picking drills" these will help you get more agile with your picking hand!. If you want to learn somthing else, just google it! google has so many Guitar sources (web-sites, charts, pictures, reviews, songs!.!.!.) If you printed it all off there would be no trees left on the planet earth and your printer would be asking you for more paper!. (lol im going a bit overboard, but u get the idea!.)
