Question: Learning the Mandolin!?
How hard do you think it would be for me to self learn the mandolin!? I have considered the guitar but honestly it seems like everyone and their dog can play one or is trying to now days!.

also perhaps you could suggest some music with a mandolin in it!? I have found that the only artist I have really liked while playing the mandolin is Chris Thile during his performances with Nickel Creek!. Is there anyone who is similar to him!? I know he is working with the punch brothers now but I am not as into their work!.

Thanks for taking the time to read and answer my question!. As well if you could suggest a mandolin that would be appreciated!. I am not looking for anything over the top expensive, just something to get my feet wet with!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's always easier to learn an instrument when you get lessons!. Elderly sells 49 different mandolin instructional DVDs, which might be a place to start!. They also sell the Kentucky KM-150S which is a good starter mandolin!.

You should check out Sam Bush, who is generally considered the best bluegrass mandolinist around, although Ricky Scaggs and Johnny Staats are good, too!. Nickel Creek is more progressive bluegrass and not to everyone's tastes while the ones I named are more traditional albeit still fine musicians!. If you can find a recording or Ricky Scaggs doing "Get Up, John" you'll hear some amazing mandolin playing!. Good luck to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is a groovy ambient celtic band called Shooglenifty with great modern mando playing that you can also check out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
