I think it's possible that the act of singing actually reduces the strength of the accent in a British singer's voice!. I have noticed that phenomenon myself!. It's possible that those whose accents are not real heavy have it bleed out, while those who come from areas with very pronounced, heavy accents leave more in it than the others!.

also it's possible that we are so used to hearing British rock singers, that we all don't necessarily notice it as much!?

What I find even more funny is American singers doing the opposite and trying to sing with a British accent!. Like Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day!. He's from California, but sounds like a total British punk rocker!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Someone mentioned Tom Jones!. Yes, I thought he was an American from his singing until someone told me otherwise!.
I do think some singers switch to an American accent!. Sting does!. Then again, Gwen Stefani doesn't pronounce her R's like an American, switching to a vague British accent!. So all seems fair game in the music industry!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

British singers often do that switch to an American accent when they sing Irish singers do that as well it's because it's better sing with an American accent then it is to sing with a English accent Welsh accent Scottish accent and a Northern Irish accent i wonder if Tom Jones sung with an American accentWww@QuestionHome@Com

Ah, thank you! It does my head in, I don't know why they do it!. You usually find it with boy and girl bands though!.

Thankfully we have the Arctic Monkeys, Dizee Rascal, Adele, and the other current female artists who are keeping the English regional accent alive in the music industry!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The British so called pop ( singers) are in my opinion, do not SING, they make the most annoying of noises!. They try to ape the Americans because they have fallen for the influence that today permiates British society!. Which is I believe most deplorable/!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah it really bugs me!.

Busted used to do it, and Son of Dork actually use American words like "side walk" and reference to Ground hog Day!.

I dont see the point!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Proclaimers don't!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was rare in fact to hear British accents before punk!.
In any case it would be stupid if the songs are American!. Nyew Orleans!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
