I don't know if Victor Wooten would help you very much; he's a really talented bass-player, but in a totally different style!.

However, it's a good idea to broaden your musical horizons; if you play mostly Metal/Hardcore, try listening to some Jazz or Funk once and a while!. Listening to and playing a wide range of music will really help you improve your skills, and also help you find your own unique style!. (For example, the bassist of Rage Against the Machine implemented a lot of Funk techniques to spice up his basslines; without that, their music would have been a lot more generic!. I don't really listen to them, but it's an example =P)

A lot of Metalcore and Hardcore out there has pretty boring bass-lines; they usually follow the guitar all the time, and it's often turned down so low in the mix that you can't hear it very well!. Try coming up with your own stuff that complements what the guitarists are playing, while still providing the rhythmic and harmonic foundation of the band!. Learning theory and playing Jazz is a good way to improve your musical ear so you can know what fits in where!.

When the guitarist is soloing, keep providing the backbone!. If it's an improvised solo, your band should have a chordal framework for it so he'll know what range he should be playing in!. If it's a pre-composed solo that's the same every time, you can try adding a bit of extra stuff in to complement what he's playing!.

As far as riffs or styles, just experiment with different things!. If you don't already play with three fingers, try that out; it really helps to increase your speed, and it's also great for triplets!. Unless you play with a pick, in which case ignore that =P (though it's good to know both)

Hope that helps you out a bit!.
