Question: Does the condition a flute is in matter when you're just learning!?
I'm planning on learning flute soon but I don't really have money to buy or rent a flute!. My aunt has a flute from when she used to play in school band, but that has probably not even been touched for 20+ years!. Assuming it wasn't broken when she was playing it, could I just use her's for a while!? I plan on getting a new and/or good one once I know I actually like the flute, and when I'll have money, but I'd like to start learning ASAP!.

No, you could probably get by on that flute for the first three grades if you want to take it that far!. You will need a good flute for grades 5 upwards, these can cost up to £600 (don't know how much in dollars) if you buy first hand but the price will be about half for buying secondhand!. The quality would be as good, my flute is second hand!. It will be harder to learn with a rubbish flute, so it may take some time to get a sound at all, I had a third hand, old flute and it took me three months to make a sound!. Don't be discouraged if it takes you a while to learn!. With the flute you mentioned you could learn the basics and take a few elementary grades but in order to pass your grade 4 exam you need a better flute and to pass your grade 5 upwards you need a good flute!. If you plan on taking it to grade 7/8 you may need a wooden flute ad they are very expensive!. Good luck with your flute playing, its a great instrument :) hope this helpedWww@QuestionHome@Com

ANY flute can be made to play by a trip to the shop!. A ten thousand dollar flute will NOT play if it NEEDS a trip to the shop! So - of course you could use hers - but it WILL need to go into the shop for a check-over!. This will be pretty cheap - much less than renting a flute!. You cannot get out of this FREE - but for a very small expenditure, you can be fine!. Without getting it fixed, I bet that you will be VERY frustrated - it will not play, no matter how hard you try!. Have a flute teacher, or your band director, look it over - it might need VERY little work!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You could probably learn on that as long as it's not broken or has clogged up tubing!. Where do you live because if you live near me than there's some good private teachers to help you learn!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
