I have been playing double bass(upright) for 8 years now!. I mostly played classical music but also a little jazz!. I want to learn to play piano as most musicians do but I don't know where I should start!. I want to learn by myself!. I am in college and cant afford lessons on top of the bass lessons!. Is there a book for people that already know music theory and has played another instrument but wants to learn pianoWww@QuestionHome@Com

Don't know what to tell you man!. I have been playing Piano for 8 months, 1:30 minutes a week and I already learned Wolfgang Mozart's Turkish March and Sergei Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C Minor!. And I'm not like those people who know how to play but doesn't know Music Theory while I can read Notes, do Arpeggios, Scales etc!. I think you can learn Piano on your own but no matter how much you see poeple do it you will develop bad habits and it's 5 times faster and better if you learn it by teacher rather than on your own!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Absolutely - lessons are the way yo go!. Greatest return on your time, easily - even though they cost $!.!. However, if you are in college, you could look into taking a piano CLASS!. It might not move as fast as you wish, but at least you would get fundamentals, and be SEEN and HEARD by a teacher!. How good do you think you would get on BASS if nobody ever saw or heard you, and you taught yourself!? "It's ONLY piano" is no excuse - this is a foundation for many other things in your musical life!. Maybe you could do this over a summer, when you are making a few bucks - or you could barter for lessons!. My son once rebuilt his voice teacher's husband's darkroom in exchange for exchange for extra lessons!.

If there was a short cut, I'd know it by now - but there is not!. I say this all the time - a good teacher is worth every dollar, and a poor teacher is a waste of every penny - but you know, that already, don't you!?

You're not Mark at SUNY Purchase, are you!? You sound a LOT like a former student of mine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
