Hi there!
Congrats on taking voice lessons- it is a fantastic instrument and one that you will have with you for your entire life!. A lot of young and new singers tend to strain when hitting hight notes or notes they are uncomfortable with!. The best advice is to think about something else than the note you are trying to hit!. Walk around, concentrate on how your jaw is positioned (it should feel lose and comfortable)!. Check your posture, stand up straight, feel the diaphragm engage!. Has your teacher worked with you on breathing yet!? That will be the biggest source of help when singing!. If you can control your breath then your sound will expand!.

While doing your exercises if you are finding yourself a little tense or strained, move your body!. use your arms to mimic the line of the exercise!. It will help loosen you up!.

One word of caution- with new singers it is really easy to over extend and harm your voice!. If your voice is hurting or is sore after your lessons you might want to discuss this with your teacher!. if she/he doesn't help you develop the tools after a few weeks to make it better then I would look for a new teacher!. There are many that claim to know technique, but end up damaging a young throat!.

Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Concentrate on your breathing when you sing, because this will help to relax you!. Make sure you are comfortable in the place where you are singing, and if you have no control over where the lessons are make sure you practice any pieces or exercises you are given at home so you are familiar with them!. The longer you take lessons for, the more relaxed you become with your voice; and it becomes easier to hit the notes with confidence so keep trying (:Www@QuestionHome@Com

Watch your jaw and neck in the mirror, you can see if it is tense!. also, try to move your jaw with your hands at various times while you're singing, to check and see if its tight!. Relax and don't push sound out with your neck, use the air God gave you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
