Ok, first I have to address a couple of other answers!. 1- NO screaming!. This is terrible vocal abuse 2- Throat Coat is sometimes used by singers as a last resort, and it can have it's place when 'the show must go on!.' The problem with Throat Coat or Chloraseptic or any numbing products is that you can truly permanently damage your voice when you sing numbed, because you can't feel the discomfort that is your body's way of telling you you're pushing too hard!.

So here's my advice!. Warm up in the shower at home!. The warm, damp air will be good for your voice and should also help cleanse your sinus passages a bit!. Once you're warm, don't keep pushing the vocal exercises!. Hum softly through your piece every 20-30 minutes to stay warm over extended periods of time, but unless you have trained your voice to perform at full capacity over extended periods of time, don't attempt to do so on concert night!.

Drinking tea with honey can be very soothing- just make sure it's decaf!. also, your water intake should be high, especially in the days leading up to the concert!. If you're only drinking during the event, your body doesn't have time to absorb & distribute the hydration to the places that need it!. And make sure that your water isn't too cold!. This can tighten your vocal cords and make them less free and pliable!. I generally stick to room temp water!.

As for the nerves, that's something that will get better with experience!. A confident sense of being prepared is the best thing you can do to arm yourself against stage fright!.

Warm up really well before your first song!. Sing your first song, after singing you really want to concentrate on not talking to anyone!. Whispering is worst so if you have to speak, do it softly!. In between the songs I definitely recommend warm tea and honey to soothe and keep your throat warm!. With that said you should be fine for your second song!.

**Helpful tips for singing**

-no dairy products 24 hours before you sing!. Milk causes mucus and can cause your voice to crack while you are singing!.

-drink lots and lots of water!. I tell my students to drink water at room temperature!. Think about it, why would your spend a lot of time warming your voice up to drink something really cool!. It pretty much starts you back at square one!.

-as far as teas go, I recommend "Throat Coat" from Traditional Medicines!. It is made for singers!. If you drink it, do not add sugar, add honey!.

-stay away from heavy foods like pasta, steak and potatoes, singing on a full stomach can be painful at times!.

-also stay away from sweets!.!.!.no candy, sugars, it makes your voice feel funny!.

-most importantly HAVE FUN!!! Singing is a wonderful way to express yourself!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
