Question: An awful band is going to try to book a show with my band! how should I approach this!?
Okay,
so, a certain big venue wants my band to play there; but I just received a myspace message from a band that is possibly the worst I have ever heard (out of tune, can't play an instrument, ect!.) that they might be booked to open for us!.
We've never played this venue before, but we've played shows were bands that were bad (not nearly as bad as this band) opened for us, and chased off a lot of the audience before we could go on!.
How should I approach this situation!?
I've already emailed the promoter saying that I can find as many good metal bands as he wants ( there's been many bands asking to play shows with us) but I don't know what to do!.
I don't want to sound pretentious, and I'm sure that this question may sound that way to some of you, but this band is REALLY AWFUL!
best answer gets 10 points, if you have experience in this situation, please put so in the reference section!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, you are in a tough spot because as you say, if the band is as awful as you say they are, then there is a good chance that they will chase the audience out!. I think the other guy was asking if people have to pay to get in!. If you're selling tickets or a cover charge at the door!.
If people know your band and are paying to see your band specifically they would stick around and just boo the other guys and chase em out!.
I've seen that happen in big concert situations!. Acts like Judas Priest and John Cougar Mellencamp were booed mercilessly back in the 70's!.

If it's a nightclub venue, then you might be in a better position, because patrons don't usually start to get abundant until after 10 o'clock!.
So if you can get em on and off before 10 you might be alright!.

also like the other person said, try to get opening act approval form the club owner or promoters in the future!. Explain to them (if you've heard the band like these guys) that the act they've chosen is seriously bad and will lower door profits and drink sales!.

I suppose it all depends on the audience, too!. A lot of them aren't all that musically educated and may not know the difference anyway!.

I think since you have already contacted the promoter, you have done all you can!. You may ask in the future if you can supply your own opener, or have the right to select from his list!.
You are getting into dangerous territory!. Make sure you stay in a good relationship with the promoter!.

This is not a problem, this is a blessing!.

You will sound great compared to them!. Old lesson: if you want to look good, stand next to the guy who looks terrible!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

is this a paid show!? if so people would probably stick around after the opener!. And wouldnt their inadequacy make your band look even better!? Did you get a response from the show promoters!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
