I want so bad to get involved in local theatre, however all they ever do is musicals and I can't sing!. I'm not embarrassed to try!. Are there usually roles for people like myself or am I screwed lolWww@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I had a hard time on stage for musicals while my voice was changing!.
For "Annie Get Your Gun" I was Buffalo Bill and couldn't sing because my voice was all messed up and cracky!. So they had me do the Rex Harrison bit and "talk" my singing!. It worked out ok!.

But by all means go to the next audition and ask if there are non singing roles!.
I got paid by a professional Opera company, Opera San Jose, for 3 different shows by being a "supernumerary" in other words, an "extra"
I've been a performing singer in bands and in musicals, but there's no way I can sing like those guys can!.Opera singers are awesomely talented!.
But I didn't have to sing in the Operas, just be a servant or a policeman, or part of a gang of bandits that kidnapped the soprano!.

So there is a possibility that you can get a non -singing role!. Or if you're not afraid to try it and aren't completely tone deaf, you could try out for the Chorus!. which is like background singers with roles!. Usually
you'd be singing along with a bunch of others at the same time, so you might fit in just fine!.
But you'll never know unless you try!. So Go for it!
I tried out for my first community theater role when I was 8, and have loved it ever since!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you can act, try out!. They won't take you for chorus, but you can remind them that Rex Harrison couldn't sign, and still took leading man roles in musicals!.
