17!?!?!? are you joking!?!?!? You're a baby! You have your whole life ahead of you and you're only just beginning on the way to a fantastic career, at exactly the right age!. Please, please ignore the fact that the TV is full of precocious stage-school brats and 14-year-old X-Factor wannabees - they know nothing, they are manipulated by their families and by record companies and are only there because record sales are bumped up by a cute face or a nice story!. They won't last!. If you really want to be a successful singer songwriter you need time, practice, maturity, experience and hard work, and you have all the time in the world at your age to achieve this- especially since you are doing all the right things now!.
Good luck! HxWww@QuestionHome@Com

If you are actually questioning this then I don't believe that you really want it all that bad!. You clearly do not have enough desire for confidence in yourself!. Maybe this isn't the thing for you, which is fine though!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's not late
Never fear the distance between your dreams and reality, if you can dream it you can make it so!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's never too late! Sheryl Crow was in her 30's when she made her first big hit!. If you want it bad enough, work hard, be ready for rejection but don't give up! Good luckWww@QuestionHome@Com

Its not too late for you at all!.!.!.!.you can do whatever you set your mind to do!.

I started with music at 15 by learning heavy metal guitar!.!.!.
then it got stolen!.!.!.!.so I went straight to drums at 16!.!.!.
I stayed with drums for over 21 years!.!.!.and I picked up a playing guitar again in 1998 after an accident!.!.!.so, now I do both on a regular basis!. I also wrote my first song lyrics in 1990 so I've written about 200 to 300 songs worth of lyrics so far!.

In your case!.!.!.focus 100% on your guitar & Piano lessons for now!.
Guitar is can be difficult because of all the various & complex chords involved!. also, do what I did to be a better Lyricist!. Take up Poetry!. I guarantee you that writing poetry will help you shape & craft your songs much more precisely!. All songs basically are: Poetry set to instrumental music!.!.!.!.that's it!. Poetry really helps with your rhyming, your lyrics skills and expanding your vocabulary!.

To write killer songs requires basic knowledge of songs structures, incredible lyrics, a good "hook" or riff, rhyming & etc!. It has to be "sound right" too!. Keep your songs short & sweet cause you don't want to to bore your audience!.

For example here is your basic song structure!.

Intro
Verse 1
Bridge
Chorus
Verse 2
Bridge
Solo
Verse 3
Bridge
Chorus
End

Hope this helps & good luck
