They are automatically copyrighted in your name the instant they are placed in a tangible form!. You can also log on to copyright/gov, read all the instructions pertaining to literary copyrights, and submit copies of your compositions to the Library of Congress for registration!.

Print a copy of the TX form from the Internet website, fill it out precisely as instructed, write a check--I think it's about $35 or so--and mail it!. You can include all your compositions into just one submission to the Library of Congress!. Of particular note, read the instructions on the website!.

Expect your registrations about eight months from now!. Don't mail your compositions to yourself, thinking that is the old and mythical "poor man's copywrite!." Send your compositions to the Library of Congress for peace of mind!.

Nevertheless, your creations are now copyrighted as you read this!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In one of my engineering classes, the professor said a good fallback plan was to mail yourself a copy of your copyrighted material -- designs, recordings, texts, etc!. -- and leave it in the sealed, postmarked package!.

Here at work we mark all our documents as Copyright 'Company Name' 'Current Year' All Rights Reserved!.!.!. you should do that, even if it might not mean much legally!.

To really be sure your stuff is safe you'd need to work with a studio / publisher or a lawyer to get things ironed out!.

Really, though, if you can prove something is yours (by means of a sealed / postmarked package with original recordings, etc!.) then you're reasonably safe!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
