The ingredient for higher notes is faster airstream!. Tightening the corners of your mouth makes the hole between your lips smaller, therefore the airstream faster!. Note this does not mean MORE air!.

More air = louder
Faster air = higher

Support from your stomach muscles also maintains the faster air stream!.

Notes do tend to drop for a while, just because your face muscles need time to get strong enough!. Try not to compensate by pressing the trumpet to your lips too hard!. The work should be done by your face and stomach muscles!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I was a music education major at USC last year and wikihow is correct in their directions

?If you need your note to get higher in pitch, don't tighten your lips, FIRM YOUR CORNERS! The common misconception among brass is to tighten your lips which increases muscle tension!. You will have much more success if you firm the corners of your lips and use the side muscles to support your vibrating lips!.
?After you have learned to play the trumpet for a while and have moved on to more advanced music, you will notice that you can't start off playing high notes when you first get your trumpet out!. This is because your lips aren't warmed up yet!. To warm them up without permanently damaging them, you should play low notes, such as C, D, E, F, G, and back down again!. After you play these notes for a little bit, you should be able to play higher notes!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Practice practice practice!. There's no trick to it!. As has been stated above it's mostly a function of building muscle strength and endurance over time!. Just like building any muscle, the more you work it the stronger it gets!. Quit playing and it atrophies!. You don't always have to practice playing high either!. Just keep playing, it'll come along!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
