by Elaine Polin

Setting: A table at McDonalds

Elaine (Driver/Volunteer)
Virginia (Ambulatory Resident)
Louise (Ambulatory Resident)

Virginia: So!? Did you bring the spider or the kitty today!?
Elaine: Neither one!.
Louise: Why not!? Did the kitty eat him!?
E: No, they’re both fine!. But I found something
on the Internet this morning I thought you might like!.
V: Just when I stopped being afraid of spiders!
E: I’ll bring him next time!. Actually the him’s a her!.
V: How can you tell!? Where do you look!?
E: I don’t have to look!. It’s the girl who spins the web!.
L: Thank heavens! I would never turn one over!
E!. Well, should I read the poem!?
L: Sure, we have lots of time today!.
I’m not gonna play Bingo!.
V!. Why not!?
L: I’m so tired!. I’m taking a nap after lunch!.
V: You sleep too much!
E: Never mind, ladies!. Here’s the poem:
(reads the entire poem--complete silence during the reading)!.
“God gave hands
to the fisherman…”
(at the end of the reading)
L: I used to go fishing in the Bay!.
V: I used to go boating!.
E: So did I, and clamming too!.
L: I’m going to see God soon!.
V: Me too!.
E: Well, tell him hello for me!.
I suspect I’m going the other way!.
V: Is that poem by that guy who thinks
he lives up on Mars with a jar of pickles!?
E: Yes, it is!. He wrote this poem when

You have endeared us to Virginia and Louise, through the power of your writing and their words!. I love this series, though this one does carry a more somber note, it is still wonderfully witty and funny, as only the elderly truly have the knack of being!. Thank you, Elaine, for showing us a glimpse of a beautiful life lived!.

!.!.!.It is a shame he went crazy, but then he dragged the lot of us with him and I must say I'm the happiest i've ever been!. Explain to me that!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sounds like me and my friends when we get together!.Everyone is all over the place with their own thoughts!.The older you get you realize each person has their own illness, pains, problems!.They really don't want to hear about yours!.Most of the conversation is surface stuff, deep thoughts and revelations that you would have talked about in your youth are set aside!.Death is approaching,we all know it Are we ready for this next journey!.We have lost spouses, dear friends already,
our children have children of their own!.They have their own problems etc!.We begin to feel very alone!.Time has slipped by, we are in the twilight of our years!.The only ones who understand are those who are as old as we are!.I believe that is the way it is suppose to be!.We very seldom ask questions to peoples opinions or comments or do we judge,we know nobody really cares what we think!.The young are busy living their lives, just the same as we did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
