Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: In addition to the first answerers info: Make certain you thoroughly clean and rinse your mouth, tongue and teeth, before playing your instrument!. After rinsing, swallow several sips of unflavored, sterile water, to remove any food, drink or toothpaste from your throat!. The slightest cough will bring up damaging liquids, which can ruin your reeds and your instrument!. Remember to clean your instrument after each session!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Any of the reeds needs some wet inside environment to sound!. It's all copper and brass, needs some warm environment and humidity so that they can vibrate (like lubricant)!. Well, it should be cleaned first and you can consult some friends or the person you bought it from if you can put some almond oil inside! Yes it prevents humidity accumulations!. The xaphoon must have a air-out button, you push it, blow hard and all the extra humidity will vanish!.!. now an advice :) Work your mouth muscles, a simple exercise would be to pronounce the utterances O - E and on!.!.!. Www@QuestionHome@Com Most reed instruments require the musician to moisten the reed for a couple of minutes prior to playing!. Do this by simply resting the reed in your mouth for two minutes then mount it to the instrument and you're all set!.
