Question: What is the point of me continuing to play violin!?
1!. I really do not like to play the instrument!.
2!. It is sucking up my parents money!.
3!. Im in book 1, and 14!.!.!. so no college money there!.
4!. The instrument is used to make beautiful music, express creativity, and as a stress-reliever!.!.!. none of that happens for me!.
I continue to play because my mother says she has put too much money in it to quit now, but why should she waste more!? It was her idea!.!.!. and I think she likes mentioning to others that I can play!.
I really want to play piano!.!.!. but of course that's not going to happen because the money is going to violin and I can't work until next summer!. :(((((

I am 60+ and I have heard many many times, I wish I had continued to play the violin!. I have never heard!. I played violin, I'm glad I quit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
While Dino made some good points, I totally disagree!. Of course, I play violin, so I might be biased!.
Anyway, if you DO switch, I would stay away from piano!. IT can be VERY expensive - more so than violin - and there's dozens and dozens of good players out there!. If you want a scholarship, I'd go for bass, voila, or even some band instrument!.

well, personally, I play the violin too, and i love it(: but then again I've been playing longer then you!. so if you really don't enjoy playing the violin, and you've been playing for more then a year and your not getting anywhere, then tell your mom that!. you should've told her that you wanted to play piano from the beginning!. but i guess its still not too late!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
I am 13!.!.!.14 in a few days so i TOTALLY get what you are saying!. the same thing is going on with me and trumpet - i dont want to continue but my parents are making me!. I have tried these things and they have convinced them! so they are gonna let me stop sophmore year!.

1: explaine to your parents that a good piano player is much more highly looked at on a college application than a violin
2: tell them that you dont want to LOOSE your love of music by having it forced on you
3: make them understand that you dont want to QUIT you just want to experiance different things - hey thats the point of being a kid!
4: really express you intrest in piano (over do it if neccessary) start looking up professional players when they are in the room, show them cool articles on piano players
5: even print out statistics that show the benefits of PIANO!
the idea is not to show the bad things of violin - that will annoy your parents!.!.!.!.just show the posotives of something else!! (in your case piano) that way they see the good things about letting you switch instomentsWww@QuestionHome@Com
You need to tell your mother what you just told us!.
Not every instrument is suitable for every musician!. You may hate playing the violin but have the potential to be a wonderful piano player, or whatever!. That's a valid reason for quitting the violin!.
I think its a matter of personality!. Some people have personalities that make them want to be the front person, the lead melody player in a band or ensemble -- those are people who probably choose instruments like violin or lead guitar, or saxophone, etc!. Then there are those whose personality leads them to want to be the rhythmic foundation of the band or group, they don't want to be out front -- those are the people who take up instruments like bass, drums, tuba, and so forth!. Then there are people who are suited by personality to be the mediators, to play the instruments that fill in the middle of the band or group -- the viola, the rhythm guitar, piano, etc!. And some people prefer to play by themselves and choose an instrument that allows them to be a self-contained one-person band -- guitar, piano!.
Tell your mother that nothing learned in music is ever really wasted or lost!. Even if you quit the violin in favor of the piano, you will have learned a lot about reading music and playing expressively, playing with good timing, etc!. Isn't it better for her to put her money into lessons on an instrument that you really WANT to play!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
