The difference between a fiddle and a violin is not the instrument!. It's a matter of what music is being played, and by whom!.

A fiddle is a violin!. A violin is a fiddle!.

Sometimes a fiddle player will have an unorthodox way of holding or playing the instrument, but often a fiddle player will have a classical background!. The only real differences are the music that comes out of it and the way the musician thinks of himself!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The construction of a violin or fiddle are the same!. Some fiddlers, prefer to flatten the top of the bridge so that it is possible to play 3 or 4 strings at the same time!. Many fiddlers are looking for a different type of sound and they achieve this by letting the rosin build up on the top of the instrument!. some other modifications such as rattle snake rattles placed inside the instrument are sometimes used!.
Most violinist refer to there instrument fondly as a "fiddle"
I can not speak for all the fiddlers, but I rarely have seen a fiddler with an instrument valued in the $1,000 range while professional violinist frequently pay over $100,000!.

They are the same instrument!. The reason one is called a fiddle and another a violin is the style of music played on them!. Fiddles are used in square dancing, country kind of music, while violins are used for classical stuff!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
