Question: Learning to play guitar !?
I want to learn guitar but , due to a temporary shortage of money , do not have any cash to get lessons!. So my questions are :

1) Is it easy to teach yourself (probably from a book) !?
2) Do you know any good teach-yourself-guitar books !?
3) How long did it take you to learn a basic level of guitar ( through lessons or otherwise) !?

Thank you !

1!. A lot of people teach themselves!. Books can help, especially for music theory and scales, but otherwise they're mediocre learning tools!. There are also online resources!.

2!. Never used any!. I have a lot of friends who play and helped me get involved!. Then I used online resources for specific tips and just did a lot of practice!.

3!. Depends on what you mean by basic!. People typically start with chords and a lot stop with chords!. I don't even think that people should stop there though!. It's essential to have technical skill on guitar and chords don't count!. For this, you can do a bit of reading up online or from books and then practice!. It's great if you can find someone who you know that plays guitar to help with proper technique!. It took me roughly a year to get good, and by "good", I mean being able to play most technical solos that come from any bands with at least some technical ability!. Fortunately, I have played instruments before, so I have the music theory down well and a trained ear!. I didn't have an instructor but I do have many friends who play guitar, so that was helpful!.

It's also a lot easier to learn guitar if you've played a different instrument too!. Outside of reading up and informing yourself on how to play, just practice, practice, and practice!. Good luck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
