Question: What can I do about choir!?
Okay, so the new school year is coming, and coming fast!. I have a problem though!. Often, after I sing, my throat hurts either after singing, the morning after, or both, or when I exercise!.

Everyone in choir will warm up, and yet I have a throat hurting, when I try so hard to be gentle, and to use my diaphragm a lot and not my throat!. I am in choir again this year, and I am going to new york for tour, and I am afraid I will lose my voice or sound bad because I have to relearn how to sing because I have been singing wrong, or something!.

I am a first soprano, and when I asked my choir teacher about my throat, he just said that he might move me to mezzo soprano because maybe it is too high for me!. I am fine with that, it's just that I don't think going too high is the problem, because I will sing low and my throat still hurts!.

You are straining your voice!. Take a little lemon water with you to each rehearsal!. Drink a sip of the water with a half of a lemon squeezed into it!. Keep it in a little water bottle!. After you finish rehearsing gargle in gentle salt water!. As you do this, your throat will feel so much better!. Stop eating a lot of sweets and instead eat fruit-- oranges, grapes, cherries, pears, bananas and apples!. Your throat should be stronger and your voice very clear!. Whatever voice you prefer, soprano or mezzo soprano, your voice should be okay!. If the throat problem persists after this, consult an ear, nose and throat specialist for strained vocal chords--- Toni D!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would recommend to see your doctor!. If you hear something in your chest it is probably something going on more than just your voice!. See your doctor, they can probably give you some type of antibiotics for whatever is settled in your throat or get your some throat spray to ease the pain!Www@QuestionHome@Com
