Question: What would be the best strings to put on my acoustic guitar!?
I am stringing my guitar and was wondering if anyone had any preferences as to which strings to use when playing an acoustic guitar!. I don't want them to be too light of a gauge!. Thanks for the help :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it's a pretty decent acoustic, you should check what strings the company originally set it up with because different types of strings apply different pressure to the guitar and when you change it, it needs to be readjusted!.

However, in most cases you will be fine stringing it with bronze or steel strings in extra light gauge, light gauge, or medium gauge!. That roughly translates to 0!.9-0!.42 to 0!.11-0!.50, or anything in between!.

The most popular acoustic strings for the best price would be a brand called D'Addario!. They're available at almost any store that sells guitars!. If you're really into it, try Elixirs or DR's, which are strings that are coated with a polymer to lengthen the life of the string!.

If I were in your place, I would find out what kind of strings were on the guitar before and based on how it played for you so far, choose a lighter or a heavier gauge if you want!. After you know if you want to change the gauge of the strings, then pick a brand!. My favorites for the acoustics are the Martin Silk and Steel and D'Addarios!. For electric guitars, I use Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkies!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I install medium gauges on all my guitars, preferring Elixer brand above most!. The Martin SPs are good acoustic strings as well!. A brand called DR Zebra is good, but I haven't seen them in years!.

Garrison's comments on string selection being individualistic is accurate, however!. Only you can decide which brand and which gauge is preferred!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hi Halley, I like Elixirs the best!. They last as long or longer than any string out there!. They make them in all gauges, so if medium gauge is your thing they've got em!. Only thing of course is that they're pricey compared to most other strings!. If you can afford the up-front cost of buying them in "bulk" from online retailers and get several sets at a time you can usually save a bundle!.

Good luck!. :)
