It's true you need to take voice lessons to be able to do it well, but you can try a couple things!. You need to be sure you're not breathing with your chest first, be sure it's your belly!. Then, sing with an "ah" vowel, and be sure to open your mouth plenty going vertically!. Finally, be sure when you sing you lift your soft pallet, open your throat (but don't strain it), and think of your tones going over a fence!.
