Question: How do I find a piano teacher in my area for my kids!?
My kids are 6 and 4!. I'm not sure about the 4 year old unless I can find a Suzuki teacher (I found one that is about 1 hour away!--too far!)!. I know there has got to be someone teaching out of their home that lives super close to us, but wouldn't necessarily advertise in the phone book (I actually checked & found nothing!)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Search on Google for (YOUR STATE) Music Teachers Association!. Just put in the name of your state before the words Music Teachers Association and then just go to the Website of your state music teachers!. You usually can then find the names of music teachers in your town or county, perhaps even in your neighborhood!.
Another way is to ask at the local elementary or high school!. Teacher salaries being what they are, you can find a skilled professional teacher of music able and willing to teach your kids (usually on the weekend, after school's out!.)
If there's a local newspaper or weekly, music teachers will often advertise in it!.
Another source is musical instrument retailers, where you will frequently find the business cards of local teachers posted near the cash register!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

An appropriate teacher is so important to your children's musical growth, a decision that to me would be far too important to entrust to a phone book!. Do you have a community college or university in your area that has a music program!? Most piano students are required to teach beginner lessons as part of the curriculum, and their teaching is monitored by an advanced instructor!. The price is usually better than private instruction outside a college/university, as well!. If you have no luck there, try the Music Teachers National Association, which can be contacted online at: http://www!.mtna!.org!. They should have a list of accredited piano teachers in your area!. Good luck!

P!.S!. Indeed, your 4-year-old may be a bit too young to begin private lessons!. It really depends on his or her attention span!. Suzuki teachers, as you mentioned, are accustomed to teaching very young children!. I've also found that 5-year-olds and below respond very well to "eurhythmics" classes, which focuses on movement and rhythm, and makes music extremely fun for the little ones!. Once again, these kinds of classes are usually an extention of a community college or university, so you can inquire there if you so decide!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If your not afraid of doing a little work you can ask around local music stores!. A lot of teachers will put up advertisments there if anywhere because it's free and gets a lot of attention, it just makes sense!.

Hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com
