Question: I need help about beginning Guitar Lessons!!?
Hellooo everyone ~ Thanks in advance!

I am very anxious and excited to begin Guitar Lessons, and am anxious for some scoop from those of you that have been there, done that!.

I'm a 30 year old professional woman, play the piano on an intermediate level, and have always wanted to learn to play guitar ~ I will be sticking with it, but want to start off on the right foot to ensure my success :0)

1) Is it better to go to an instructor, or have one come to my home!?
2) Are 1 hour lessons too long!? Should I keep it at a half hour!?

3) What is considered too cheap/too pricey for lessons!?

4) I have a good shape Yamaha C40 (I think!?!?) classical nylon string guitar!. Is it cost effective to have it restrung and/or refurbished, or just replace!? It's in great shape except some rusty looking strings!.

5) If so, where do I take it!?

Sorry for being so wordy, but these are my questions I've been unable to find answers for online ^!.!.^

Thanks bunches! Have a great day ~ Rock On!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Lessons are less than 20 an hour!.!.!.your instructor should know how often you get lessons but you should know from learning the piano!.!.!.you should check out youtube lessons because theres alot of good free lessons on there!. That guitar sounds fine, take it to a music store and get it restrung and setup and that should be around 50 bux maybe lessWww@QuestionHome@Com

1!. I would got to an instructor rather than have then come to my house!. Ususally musicians are a little "ify" at best!.
2!. You can never really practice to much (unless you are causing damage to your body) but I think 1 hour should be fine!.
3!. depends on whoe you teacher is!. I think like $25/half hour or so is about the rate, not sure though, never taken one!.
4!. Your guitar is probably a piece of junk, whihc is perfect for someone just starting out!. I would invest in $5 to replace the strings!. Your insuructor should be able to change you strings and show you how ; if he/she can't - get a new instructor!.

good luck and stay with it!. it takes longer than most are willing to give!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!. Go to your instructor for lessons, most will insist on it anyway or will charge you extra for travel time to come to you!.
2!. 1 hour lessons are fine!. You can cover a lot of material in an hour if your instructor is well organized!. You may even be able to do a 1 hour lesson every 2 weeks instead of a 1/2 hour every week, which may work out better especially if you have to travel a distance to your guitar lessons!.
3!. Prices of lessons depend on where you are, but $15-20 per half hour or $40-50 per hour would be reasonable!.

Don't be afraid to talk to several different guitar instructors before choosing one!. Find out, how long have they been teaching!? What styles of music do they teach (and do they teach the style of music you want to play!?)!. Do they perform regularly and with what kinds of groups!? How do they feel about teaching (its sad but true that a lot of musicians teach to make extra money but don't really enjoy it -- and if they don't enjoy it they're not likely to do it very well)!.

4!. & 5!. Your Yamaha C-40 classical guitar will be fine to start out on!. Depending on what style of music you want to play, you may eventually decide to upgrade to a new or different guitar after awhile, but your Yamaha will be fine for now!. Take it to a guitar store that has a repair department and have it checked out -- it may need to be set up -- and have a fresh set of strings put on it!. Have someone at the store show you how to replace the strings so that you can change them yourself every couple of months or so, so that it will continue to sound its best (as guitar strings get old, they go dead-sounding and don't stay in tune as well, and are more apt to break)!.

Hope this helps --Www@QuestionHome@Com
