Left-T is right in saying that breathing is a good start to relaxing and sounding your best!. When people are nervous, their shoulders tend to tense up!. This is terrible for the air flow that should be coming from your diaphragm, so make sure your shoulders are down and back when you sing!. Another way to shake your nerves is to get a lot of practice singing in front of people!. The best way to do this is through taking a class!. I don't know how old you are, but if you are in high school or college you might be able to see if there is either a Musical Theater class or interest group that you can enroll in!. This way, you will be able to gain experience singing solo in front of people (the class) in a judgement free learning setting!. An alternative to this is taking voice lessons that have recitals if musical theater classes are not available to you!. You will not get as much performance experience doing this, but it may help you out a little bit!. Eventually, you will become more accustomed to singing in front of people and will no longer feel as tense!. This isn't to say that you will be totally relaxed!.!.!. nerves are a given thing for some performers!.!. but it should help!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

it's absoloutely best to support well with your diaphram and relax your shoulders, like the people above me said!. i also find relaxing your neck to help (like floating on your back in the pool - your neck has to be relaxed in order for everything to float)!.

also - this sounds kind of snobbish, but i don't mean it that way at all - try to find an environment where people are singing all the time, and get REALLY annoyed with them!. for me it's my youth group - at camps and retreats, the girls never stop singing out loud; they even sing in the cabins and at meals and everything!. after a while this will start to annoy you really badly because they sound like they're just seeking attention (which they usually are)!.
after it annoys you, you'll start to want to sing yourself (either to prove that you can or to get them to shut up)!. at this point, you'll be so used to hearing mediocre singers and even bad singers who are totally relaxed that it should come naturally to you!.

if you don't have this kind of environment, try singing a lot while you're home alone, in front of your dogs, or singing along with some of your friends!. it's all about easing your way into singing by yourself in front of others!.

good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Relaxing is a technique in its own right!. There is no one right way to do it!. Try breathing deeply before going on stage!. Deep concentrated breathing forcing your muscles to expand and relax!. The next thing is to think about how you sing!. Remember to push air from your lower lungs through your throat!. Your tension shows that you are singing improperly!. Think about proper singing technique!. Open up, relax, and do what you know how to do!Www@QuestionHome@Com
